Thursday is the Ain’t it Black 1st birthday party at Favela chic.

It’s gonna be a monster session. A celebration of an amazing year of finding new music and making new friends.  There’s live music from Olivier DaySoul and the usual cut price/fully loaded, high fiving deejays.

Come down, if you’re local. Rumours abound of some crazy-assed fancy dress costumes (”just call me snake”) and what with the usual insane dancefloor antics and the friendliest crowd in the east there’s sure to be a lot of love in the room.

Ulysses82 -Easy to Find/Hard to Lose

It’s Ain’t it Black tonight at the vibey (but ever sketchy) Favela chic, Great Eastern St.

Expect the usual synth heavy 80s funk and electro selection from 7oel, Food Soundsystem and me and christophe.

I’m in a ‘wishing I was still on holiday’ kind of mood so just as well I’m on early (thinking a moody-downbeat-electro set could be in order)

It’s always a killer session and with a live set from Jason Jermaine this could be the one that takes it next level.

Sometimes we take a track and really funk it up, this is just case of cutting out the chaff. It’s obviously a classic funk track, but does it really need 2 and half minutes of guitar solo?

I thought not.

SLAVE-Slide (Ulysses 82 cut)

Best known for his excursions into the outer limits of scifi electronics and freaky remixes, Joseph Quaid returns this week with a mix highlighting the influences and aspirations of the firemusic sound. It’s a head-y brew of deep detroit flavoured soul and futuristic afro rhythms boding well not just for the deep range series as a whole, but for the ’soon come’ releases of this mighty (yet barely known) collective of musicians.

 Christoph has a cold.

I need to pull it together though, as I’m DJing tonight alongside Jaksoul @ AINT IT BLACK 7-1am, Favela Chic. It’s a night I/we’ve been hyped about for a while now, an although I feel like I’m underwater right now, I’m still looking forward to it. For now, here’s a little nice up for ya, courtesy of an old friend who’s back after an extended hiatus. So here’s a little edit to warm your weekend.

It’s been a rediculously busy couple of months.We’ve taken in stag do’s, house moves, DJ tours (more on that soon), weddings and the monumental incompetance of Messers B & T, who have managed to leave me without te Internets for a month and counting. The peckerheads.

What’s certainly clear is that however accomplished my multi-tasking is, it didn’t stretch to posting as well. However, this does mean that there’s now a glut of ULYSSES82 re-edits in the pipeline, watch this space over the coming few days/weeks as I get round to sticking them up.

Tomorrow Jaksoul et moi will be suiting up and spinning the wheels of steel at The Elbow Room in Shoreditch. I for one can’t wait – my recordbox is stocked like a frickin Trout Pond. If you fancy joining us, we’d love to see you.

gwen mccrae-keep the fire burning (ulysses 82 cut)

The work of a re-editor is a complex one. Finding the right track, cutting out the excess, adding your own special source and (most importantly) deciding when enough is enough and that baby is “ready”.

This particular track has been flying round christoph’s harddrive for weeks, slowly making the painful transition from ‘work in progress’ to finished article. Who knows it may get twisted and chopped at again, but right now it feels like something that needs to be shared.

However, the glass half-full camp will already be on the D-Floor, with their shades on and their light-up LED T-Shirts in full song, wondering what all the fuss is about.

I love all the tracks pilfered for this edit, but rarely play them out on their own because they seem too much most of the time, too easy perhaps, too.. -too obvious. But that doesn’t change the fact that they’re still stone cold classics, which brings me back to that difficult question, when DO you play those tracks which are so great, they’re actually too big for their own good?

I dunno. To be honest, it’s Thursday night, I’ve had me tea and my head’s full of potential Pro-Evo formations and little else. I’m in full on Mongsville, it’s Friday tomorrow and I can smell the weekend already.

So it’s with great pleasure that I present to you a remix that’s proud of it’s roots, certainly doesn’t take itself too seriously, and flicks all my weekend switches to ‘on’. Enjoy.
