In the glory days of Sunday night’s on Kiss FM, with Norman Jay and Gilles playing back to back shows, the highlight of the year was the All Winners Show.  Anything, well almost anything, was okay to tape over in order to have those four hours of goodness. The most important tool for a dj to possess is the ability to filter. To find the two records in a hundred that you connect with, and to find the two records in a thousand that you will connect with year after year.

Some people collect every record Larry Levan ever played, which of itself is no big deal, but what made the guy such a great dj is that each of the records he played meant something unique to him. It doesn’t mean that playing a Levan Style set is in anyway a bad thing, but ultimately you need to be making your own connection with the music, otherwise your just a ’stars in their eyes’ tribute dj.

Anyway finding that personel connection is what informs your filter and the idea behind an All Winners gig or show is just an example of that filter in action. All the tunes that have rocked us this year, new or old, that will come with us into next year and then who knows.

It will be a blast, my first tune gonna be ‘Blessed is the Man’; it been a great year.
