Friday 25th Nov. OMGTTFS
My local Somerfield decided to put their Christmas Tree up more than two weeks ago. I refuse to write off the whole of November as a pre-match friendly, but when it gets to the 25th, Christmas doesn’t seem so far away. Ironically, Christmas never seems far away to our Jak, who once starred in a low budget project called ’Good will to all Men’, which I’m sure we’ll watch over a warm cup of Grolsch after our set this coming Friday………(he was young, and he got to keep the costume).
The last Basilika outing proved to be something truly special. After conquering a host of spectacularly lo fi technical difficulties (which included me having to tap ‘the sweet spot’ on the 1210 to maintain a stereo output), musical treats were served in all manner of flavours. On a slightly more soulful note, I’m loving Basilika at the moment, here’s hoping that you do too.
Five chestnuts to roast on your open fire:
-
Peven Everett - ‘This is easy livin’ - Butterz vocal over a strolling baseline that I just can’t get out of my head.
-
Noisy Bunch - ‘Disco Request’ - Huge respect to Ruby for this Dancehall/Disco monster that I just love to pieces. Went down a storm at Basilika last session, I hear there’s some more magic under construction as we speak.
-
Ian Dury & The Seven Sea Players - ‘Spasticus Artisticus’ - Massive Rubberband Baseline and incredible lyrics. A Beaut.
-
Nas - ‘NY State of Mind’ - The Illa dropped this at his last appearance and tore a massive Premier shaped hole in the roof. I’m not sure my mum likes it, but oh my. Stone. Cold.
-
Frogs - ‘I’m sad the goat just died today’ - ‘..I’m sad my goat just fell in the Hay, Hey’. Google this. Listen.
Also worth checking is SAMBALANCO which rocks out this coming Saturday 26th at the Monkey in Camberwell. This week We’re joined by the almighty racket that is SPIRITUAL SOUTH. I’ll be flexing some Basilika muscle with the other highly capable residents, Blackgrove and Matt ‘Who HASN’T he been out with’ Riley.
Seasons greetings, C 2tha Trizzal*
*Will be wearing a new hat this FRIDAY 25TH
