Plastic fantastic
A crew of us ended up at Plastic People on Saturday night and what a night it was. A beautifully eclectic selection of the finest music all played through one of the most finely (if not the most) balanced sound systems in London. It was a dj’s gig. Every tune dipped into a different genre and the quality of the sound brought out the rythmic elements of each. The dance floor is dark and intimate providing the perfect space to dance fearlessly and the crowd is so willfully open minded they will work to find the groove in almost any tune.
Saturday it was Aday (I think), the owner of Plastic People playing and let’s face it he’s earnt it, but for most dj’s this is a dream gig. Most of the time djing is about artfully compromising the music you love with the crowd you have. Doing this week in week out and maintaining the integrity of your relationship with music feels like one of the biggest challenges a dj faces.
And while we are waiting, the hope of one day having the crowd and the system to do your music justice is enough.
