Music is a spiritual language

We’ve all got to begin somewhere, and I want to begin with John Coltrane. Not for ‘Jazz Points’ or anything, because I’m not truly expecting many people to check this blog…but because this is a track that reflects a lot of what I love about Jazz. . Long slow build ups drums that kick, swing and groove, and solos that informative without being challenging. Challenging is good mind you, but this track works at any time. ‘Challenging’ is a state of mind…’challenging’ in Jazz is a bottle of red wine and nothing to do for a rainy afternoon. I might put some of what I consider ‘challenging’ up later, but for now, I hope you’ll enjoy ‘Wise One by John Coltrane, off his Impulse album ‘Crescent’, recorded in 1964 with John Coltrane (ts), McCoy Turner (p), Jimmy Garrison (b), and Elvin Jones (dr).

yeah jizzy, choice opener.I’ve got a lot of the ‘challenging’ coltrane stuff that kinda does my head in (not enough red wine maybe). You almost feel obligated to try and get into it if you claim to be a jazzer.
